Internships

KnowledgeWalk Institute offers select internships for creative and technical students wishing to pursue careers in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and related areas.   Interns receive project-focused assignments and challenging objectives consistent with their career goals.

Unlike other internship programmes that may relegate interns to work on outdated technology, KnowledgeWalk Institute interns work on leading technology that will help develop their skills and make them more attractive candidates in the technology field. An intern in this exciting high-performance environment will get to work with a dynamic and innovative team on the development of new initiatives, real world products and client-driven services.

After completing the internship, interns should be able to continue with post-secondary study, enter the job market or a combination of both.

Objectives of the Programme

The main objectives of the internship programme are:

  • to provide interns with an opportunity to apply theories and skills, learnt in coursework, to practical experiences in a research and development setting;
  • to encourage the exchange of ideas and insights between the intern and his/her colleagues at the worksite;
  • to provide the intern an opportunity to promote and broaden his/her knowledge and understanding of technology-related professions;
  • to enable the intern to obtain information that can be used as a basis for making choices regarding future jobs, areas of specialisation, and/or further study in technology;
  • to enable the intern to identify his/her own strengths and weaknesses in the workplace;
  • to identify and track potential full-time employees;
  • to establish "goodwill ambassadors" for KnowledgeWalk Institute on campuses.

What is an Internship?

Internship is planned, on-the-job learning. It is a process for gaining new knowledge and skills while working in a business or profession. Interns learn from doing, performing, meeting real challenges, pursuing real opportunities, managing real training, solving real problems, observing, and making real decisions under the guidance of an experienced supervisor.

Reading books and attending classes are not the only ways to learn. Interns get new knowledge and skills faster and at lower cost by taking action in real job situations, then recording and reviewing or discussing the results with a practical expert.

At KnowledgeWalk Institute, interns are just like full-time employees. They have enormous responsibility, project ownership, and impact. The only difference between them and a full-time employee is that they are there for a few months instead of years.

The Benefits of an Internship

Internship can be an invaluable tool in assisting interns in the development of new technical, professional, and interpersonal skills. The following are some of the benefits unique to the internship process.

Internships:

  • help to build problem solving and decision making skills;
  • can be successful even when the selected training is not completely successful;
  • provide substantive work in a field that might be part of long-term career plans;
  • allow the exploration of the culture of an organisation and the skill set necessary to succeed in a chosen industry;
  • provide access to networks of professionals in a field;
  • build a career-oriented work record, which increases marketability and value to employers upon graduation;
  • allow the earning of money to offset educational expenses.

At KnowledgeWalk Institute interns also have an opportunity to attend training seminars, meet industry leaders and enjoy both the serious and fun side of working in a research and development environment.

Who Are We Looking For?

We are looking for undergraduates as well as post-graduate degree candidates interested in internships and full-time careers. We are seeking students who are driven to change the way consumers and corporations interact with digital media technology. We want to hire team players who are critical and creative thinkers, who find innovative solutions to complex problems, and who simply enjoy dreaming and imagining a brighter future.

Application and Selection Procedure

KnowledgeWalk Institute has internships available for interested individuals throughout the year. All of our internships are flexible with regard to length of time and number of hours worked per week. If you are interested in our internship programs, please complete the Internship Application. Simply submit your information, and we will contact qualified applicants for an interview.

Our selection process involves two phases: application screening and interviewing of selected candidates. A selection committee is involved in both phases. Selected interns are notified by the KWI and provided with an official internship offer.
